L'Innesto

"L’Innesto" means graft: inserting new elements into a heterogeneous context to create connections and foster growth. The project redevelops the former railway yard of Milano Greco-Breda. It is the first affordable housing district in Italy aiming for climate neutrality.

Located between Greco and Bicocca, the area has had an agricultural then industrial past. Today it is an academic and cultural hub near Università Bicocca, Teatro Arcimboldi, and Pirelli Hangar Bicocca. Winner of the 2019 Reinventing Cities competition, the project includes 330 apartments, a student residence, a Circular Economy District, a Zero Waste Food Store, a Community Food Hub, and 45,000 sqm of public green space.
